Professional Pursuits
Great Lakes Adventist Academy welcomes Helen Woldemichael, who has been recently hired as the Choral and Strings music teacher. She hails from the beautiful country of Addis Ababa, Ethiopa. God has given her such a thriving passion for music that it has emanated throughout all her studies and endeavors. This passion has also led her to complete a diploma in piano performance from Addis Ababa University Yared School of Music in 1999, Bachelor of Arts in Music in 2007 at AAU Yared School of Music in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and a Master of Music in Choral Conducting at Andrews University in July 2011. Music Theory is also a her specialty.
Her experience includes conducting various choirs ranging from elementary to adult, working as a choral librarian, serving as the graduate teaching assistant in music theory and ear training, giving piano lessons, organizing Chamber Orchestra and Choir performances, serving as the chief editor, typographer, song selector, and arranger of the Ethiopian SDA church Hymnal, preparing the score for the 2010 General Conference Session Choirs, as well as for Southwestern Adventist University’s Music Festival. She has also conducted Icantori, and Cantabella Women’s Chorus at Andrew University, and Filwoha SDA Church Youth and Children’s Choirs in Ethiopia. She is also a member of the American Choral Directors Association.
Other Pursuits
Helen loves to joke, laugh and have fun. Swimming, Ping Pong, and Volleyball are her favorite sports. She also loves photography, reading, and fixing things. Her favorite song is ‘Great is thy faithfulness’ and light Purple is her color choice. Interestingly enough, before coming to the US Helen established her own successful business importing cars from Norway, Germany and Dubai. When asked where has always dreamed of living, she answered, “Stockholm, Sweden because, I love living beside waters, it’s very peaceful and has beautiful landscaping.” As for her dream place to visit, she would love to go to Australia, the world “down under”.
Vision
“My goal in life is to be where God wants me to be, and to reach where he planned for me to reach. My aim for GLAA include striving for excellence and to develop a very good music preparatory program for College. I’m so excited to have the opportunity to work at this school, to work with the students.”
